INTRODUCTION

If we take a short look back about ten years ago we will see that it was nearly impossible for people to perform a live conference or just to talk with their families by not only listening but also seeing each other. Sure there were web cameras back then but their resolutions that didn’t reach over 640x480 and frames per second made it almost impossible to use them and even if that wasn't bad for some people then the lack of adequate internet speed was. Today we see that broadband internet has reached almost every single place in the planet thus allowing for people to make video calls from one side of the world to the other. As it was quite natural resolutions and frames per second improved many times over in comparison with the past and so we now have 1.3 Mega Pixel web cameras that are able to take 5 or even 8 Mega Pixel still shots. Logitech was always a leading brand in PC accessories and today we have the privilege of testing one of their products.
Logitech was founded in 1981 at Apples, Switzerland and the first device they conjured was the mouse which provided a more intuitive way of interacting with computers. Since those early days they have expanded their expertise in product design beyond the computer mouse, with a broad portfolio of interface devices that are the “last inch” between you and your computer or your console game, digital music or home-entertainment system. With products sold in almost every country in the world, Logitech’s leadership in innovation now encompasses a wide variety of personal peripherals (both cordless and corded), with special emphasis on products for PC navigation, gaming, Internet communications, digital music and home-entertainment control. For each of their product categories they study how our customers use their digital devices and their our designers and engineers set their sights on how they can create a better experience with those devices – richer, more comfortable, more fun, more productive, more convenient, more delightful. Focused on innovation and quality, Logitech designs personal peripherals to help people enjoy a better experience with the digital world.
After a short ( very short ) one week vacation i came back to find the Logitech Quickcam Sphere AF waiting on my test table. This is by far the best looking web camera i have seen and also the most expensive one. Since logitech is known to provide cost effective solutions friendly to peoples wallets my sole goal is to find out whether the quite heavy price tag represents the performance of this device. Logitech has never failed me before and so i doubt they will now.
