INTRODUCTION

Whether you are a simple everyday user, gamer or even a professional designer the mouse is perhaps one of the most significant weapons you have at your disposal. It took quite a long time to go from the old trackball mouse to the new generation optical mouse and not too long after reach the laser mouse technology. The high end laser technology is mostly used by gamers since it exists in high end models and provides far better response times in comparison to the normal optical mouse. However today we are not here to speak about a laser mouse, today we are here to speak about something even newer in the industry which is mostly targeted towards professional graphics designers who want the best available way to navigate through their work. The company which we are talking about today is 3Dconnexion and the fact that they are a Logitech company means that we can expect the same level of quality from their products.

3Dconnexion is a Logitech company that designs, manufactures and markets an award-winning line of navigation input devices (also called "motion controllers") for accelerating user productivity. As the worldwide leader in navigation input devices, 3Dconnexion serves the distinct needs of a diverse set of industries and creative professionals including those in Product Design (CAD/CAM/CAE), Animation, Modeling and Digital Content Creation. Any design professional using 2D or 3D software can revolutionize the way they work with a navigation input device from 3Dconnexion. Designed to be used in tandem with a traditional mouse, a navigation input device conveniently streamlines all on-screen navigation. It completely eliminates the tedious shuffle between mouse and keyboard required to position models or objects on the screen in 3D software applications. Over 120 popular software applications are supported. Because of these relationships, 3Dconnexion devices are able to unlock hidden power within these applications; power and functionality that cannot be accessed with a mouse alone. 3Dconnexion’s corporate  headquarters is located in Silicon Valley, California, with regional offices in Dallas, Detroit, Los Angeles, London, Milan, Munich, Paris, Shanghai, Stockholm, Tokyo and Wroclaw. 3Dconnexion is revolutionizing the way product designers and digital artists work. From aerospace to automotive, consumer goods to electronics, machine tools to game development, their navigation input devices accelerate productivity to a new level.

The first out of two 3Dconnextion devices that we will be reviewing is their entry level, the Space Navigator PE. PE stands for Personal Edition and as you realize this is a version for non-commercial use. There is also the SE edition which is sold for commercial use. The Space Navigator is a high quality device that resembles no other i have ever seen. During this entire review i had a good time working with it but in the beginning it may be hard to get used to, just like any new technology. Let’s see just how good and innovative this device really is.
