The AMD Radeon HD 7790 an entry-level graphics card that is based on the new “Bonaire” GPU, which has a 160mm² die that is comprised of 2.08 billion transistors and 896 stream processors. Additionally, the GPU includes 56 texture units, 64 Z/stencil units, 16 ROPs, and Dual Geometry Engines. These specifications make it the fastest graphics card in the 7700 series, and with the 1GHz clock speed it can easily run most games at 1920x1080.
The XFX HD 7790 we are examining in this review is a step above the reference models, though as it is part of their Black Edition Series, which boosts the default clock speed from 1000MHz to 1075MHz and it has a 1GB frame buffer that runs on a 128-bit bus and is clocked at 1600MHz (6400MHz effective). The model also sports XFX’s Double Dissipation Edition thermal solution with Ghost Thermal technology.
The price of the XFX HD 7790 Double D Black Edition graphics card is just a notch higher than your standard run of the mill HD 7790, but there are discounts available right now that bring the price of the graphics card down from $159.99, to $139.99.
