Introduction

If a full on NAS isn’t your cup of tea, you would typically be left with HDD docks similar to the Ineo I-NAU321U+ we reviewed just last week. Vantec has decided to change that, and introduce their latest member of the Nexstar family – the Nexstar MX.
The Nexstar MX is a dual bay 3.5” HDD enclosure that supports 3TB hard drives in RAID0, 1 and JBOD. To transfer your data the Nexstar MX has eSATA and USB 3.0 connections, for quick convenient access to the unit.
As the Director of RWL you can imagine the amount of data I have stored away for safe keeping, but that’s not to say that you don’t have large amounts yourself. That why when I first spoke to Vantec about the Nexstar MX USB3 I was excited to get the unit in and see if it could live up to my expectations.
Sure, I could back up all of my data onto a series of blank DVDs, but those are only a few gigs in size and are subject to disc rot. The Nexstar MX external hard drive enclosure from Vantec fits the bill, because it houses two drives instead of just one. And each of these drives can be up to three terabytes in space, effectively giving you enough room to back up a full 6TB of photos, music, videos, documents, or even a website.
