Introduction

The MiniPC market is picking up very rapidly, and it’s about time to be honest. I have been looking at a number of small HTPC/MiniPCs over the last few years, wondering when someone would go against the mold and create an absolute beast inside the small form factor.
Just a few days back a package arrived at my door, and after looking at the label I noticed it was from Zotac. Running through my head of all the things they could have sent me, I immediately thought of the new ZBOX – the ID84 Plus.
The ID84 Plus is an “eco-friendly” MiniPC powered by Geforce GT 520M Graphics with a dedicated 512MB of memory. The Central Processing Unit is from the Cedarview-D Intel Family – the D2550. Packing in 2 cores and 4 threads the D2550 operates at 1.86 GHz with an onboard cache of 1MB L2 and is manufactured on the same .032 micron process as Intel’s Sandy Bridge.
We also have NVIDIA CUDA, PureVideo HD and HDMI 1.4a technologies with premium audio and video capabilities. Space for a 2.5-inch hard drive and 2 x 204-pin DDR3-1066 SO-DIMM slots enable users to customize the internals of the ZOTAC ZBOX ID84 Plus to their own needs. A 320GB hard drive and 2GB of DDR3 are included -- while USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports along with a 6-in-1 memory card reader provide greater external expansion capabilities.
