Introduction

Just a few months ago we took a look at our first NAS appliances of 2012 – the TS-419PII from Qnap, and followed that up quickly with a NAS from Thecus another well-known manufacturer in the Home and SMB storage market.
The Thecus was the first of the HDMI enabled Vision series but only had two bays, was more consumer friendly – but lacked some of the higher-end features. On the other hand, the Qnap was a 4 bay model and was feature packed with firmware 3.6, but was lacking processing power.
Today, we get the best of both worlds in the Qnap TS-569 Pro, and it is also our first look at the new 3.7 OS firmware.
All of this is part of the new TS-x69 Pro series of NAS appliances Qnap launched on March 9th. This series ushers in new technology and should come to replace the now two year old x59 series. Some of the most notable changes in this new series include the Intel Atom 2.13GHz DC CPU, 1GB RAM upgradeable to 3GB using the standard DDR3 SODIMM, with the latest USB 3.0 as well as supporting SATA 6 GB/s.
As time and technology moves forward at an entrancing pace, the need to have secure storage is becoming very persuasive. Qnap also shares with this idea, and continues its ongoing efforts to improve and fine tune the functionality and ease of use with their NAS appliances.
