Introduction

Asus has been in the networking market for a number of years now, and as of late seem to be making a name for themselves taking on the top dogs, Cisco and Netgear. Amazing products like the “Black Diamond” RT-N56U really put them on the map and set the stage for an all-out battle for wireless router supremacy.
Asus has always played with marketing names, with products like the P5K3 Premium “Black Pearl”, the first motherboard to incorporate high end DDR3 memory on the mainboard itself, the aforementioned “Black Diamond” Wireless Router and todays featured product is no different the Asus “Dark Knight” Dual Band N900 Wireless Router or the RT-N66u.
For those of you that love playing with 3rd party firmware options such as DDWRT or Tomato. Asus has packed the N66u with a full complement of Broadcom ICs that will surely have you drooling, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves here.
The N66u is a N900 router which means it utilizes dual band (2.4 and 5 GHz) wireless technology, along with one Gigabit WAN port and four switched Gbit LAN ports along with a few other surprises.
So is this router worthy of the “Dark Knight” naming or is it just another router in a penguin suit!
