INTRODUCTION

 

 

 

 

    With the recent yet quite long HDD price crisis due to floods in Taiwan finally coming to an end people around the world will certainly start purchasing once again extra storage for their data. Now as some of you know a couple of weeks back Hitachi GST shipped the first batches of their latest DeskStar 4TB drives which are currently the highest capacity disk drives available in the market. However since just over a month ago some of you requested that we take a look at the latest Touro Desk Pro external HDD by Hitachi GST we will be leaving the 4TB drives for early 2012 (since there will also be more than just a single model by then) in order to fulfill your request.

    Although during testing i did not slice open the TOURO DESK PRO enclosure to see what kind of drive Hitachi GST has used still I’m pretty sure it's the DeskStar 7K3000 which is an excellent HDD both in terms of speed and reliability. Of course as most of you are well aware single drives can hardly match the output of USB 3.0 and so if you wish to have the maximum possible read/write speeds then you should really take a look at other solutions such as the latest G-Technology external RAID units since they combine impressive speeds with professional grade enclosures. Still since most people are not really into getting the fastest possible external HDD enclosure single HDD solutions offer the best bang for the buck and so let's move forward to see just how good the TOURO DESK PRO 3TB really is.
