INTRODUCTION

 

 

 

 

    With recent price drops the cost for entry-level Network Attached Storage units (NAS) is finally low enough so pretty much every person can now own one which is the reason as to why day by day we see more and more of these units bought for home use. However for people who want more features and are also willing to spend more the cost-effective, single HDD entry level NAS units may not be up to the task. Now during the past 2 months several of our readers have asked for our opinion regarding the latest consumer NAS models by QNAP to hit the market, namely the TS-219P II and the TS-419P II. So because of that both units have been in our possession and on our test bench for over 25 days inside which they have been used on a daily basis in order for us to deliver the most objective and accurate possible opinion and test results.

    Aside the excellent TS-459Pro+ we received over a year ago for personal use we also reviewed the latest TS-219P+ model which was equally impressive although it did lack some of the features its older brother had. Still both the build quality of the unit along with its performance was simply perfect and above what the competition had to show at that time. Today we will be talking about the TS-219P II unit which when placed up against the TS-219P+ model it has but a single upgrade, its Marvell CPU featuring a 2.0GHz clock compared to the 1.6GHz of the TS-219P+. 400MHz may not sound as a great performance increase but this is a NAS unit we're talking about so it should help quite a lot.
