INTRODUCTION

It seems that benchmarking our new X79 mainboards was the easy part after all since testing them for stability with all the latest games like Battlefield 3 and Skyrim may be fun indeed but has proven to be more challenging and very time consuming. In any case our X79 reviews are going well (so far) and we haven't actually found any bugs up until now so if that keeps on we should have all related reviews ready and up by the end of the month. However until we are done with those we can't really freeze our reviews so today on our test bench we have the latest USB 3.0 external HDD RAID enclosure by RaidSonic, the ICY BOX RD-3219STu3.
RaidSonic Technology GmbH was founded in Hamburg 1999. To realize our future visions and the rising requirements, RaidSonic moved to Ahrensburg (20 min. away from Hamburg) in May 2004.The capacity of our new warehouse, our permanent improving logistic and the expanded technical support lets us look into the future very optimistically. Our vision in a constantly growing IT market is to develop products, which will become your future dreams. Our extensive product portfolio, which we distribute Europe-wide, combines all internal and external solutions for the application of mass storage, for industrial and professional applications as well as for the private sphere, too. Through our all along increasing know-how, good results in research and development and our good cooperation with our long-time customers we could achieve a dynamic growth.
Less than a year ago external HDD RAID enclosures were not common in the market, sure you would find some (by G-Technology for example or OWC) if you really tried but due to the nature of RAID units (aimed mainly at professionals) most would really cost a lot of money and would be already outfitted with drives right from the factory. Lately however many manufacturers like RaidSonic have begun making available external HDD RAID enclosures at rather low price points which you can of course outfit with whatever drives you wish. Of course you can't expect to have the same level of performance as professional oriented RAID ready enclosures but to most people price is of the essence. However since you all know that only numbers matter with such reviews lets head and see what the latest RaidSonic unit is capable off.
