INTRODUCTION

The benefits of having a good power supply unit is something we have talked about here over and over for the past 4 years and include things such as clean and stable power, good/very good/excellent efficiency, overload protections, and various other aspects which are mostly practical things like the amount of power connectors available and giving you the choice to add/remove cables according to the installed hardware (modular units). Now although many manufacturers are focusing on their latest 80 Plus Platinum certified power supply units Thermaltake decided to also make available to all of you a more "cost-effective" line of power supplies the Toughpower 80Plus Silver line.
Since the beginning of Thermaltake in 1999, they have been at the forefront of creating new and exciting products at a time where most computer users were provided little to no choices for components that may seem irrelevant, but in reality crucial to the performance of a PC. Thermaltake Server Series solutions, with years of thermal experience and industry leadership, sets its goal on reforming total thermal management in server segment by formulating the perfect mixture of versatility, efficiency and thermal management with each respective server product category: Rackmount Chassis, Server Fixed & Redundant Power Supply and Server CPU Cooling Management Solutions. With its comprehensive line of products available, it enables Thermaltake's core customers to enjoy a one-stop-shop experience, reduce product design-in evaluation period and most important of all, flawless integration process. Each of Thermaltake's strengths enables its customer to focus on their core business while taking advantage of the skills and efficiency of a single thermal management solution partner.
Just as the title says with us today we have the 1200W variant which is the 3rd most powerful unit in the Toughpower 80Plus Silver line (right after the 1500W and 1350W ones) and so it should easily cover even people with most Quad SLI/CF configurations. The only tiny downside with this unit is its 80Plus Silver certification which at this time is 2 steps beneath the latest 80Plus Platinum series just released but Thermaltake needed to come up with a way to reduce the overall cost of the unit so taking into consideration its price tag compared to the price tag of other 80Plus Gold and Platinum units I’d say they did great. All that is good but we also need to see how well it does in our tests so let’s move forward onto the rest of the review.
