INTRODUCTION

 

 

 

 

     Inside 2011 alone we have reviewed quite a few 2.5" USB 3.0 compatible HDD enclosures which although still not problem-free (occasional power issues/disconnections) actually managed to surpass the speed of the previous generation USB 2.0 enclosures up to 4 times. Now since as mentioned most external 2.5" HDD enclosures to pass my door lately feature the latest USB 3.0 connectivity i was naturally surprised to receive an USB 2.0/eSATA compatible 2.5" HDD enclosure by Zalman named the ZM-VE200.

    The funny thing is that upon looking at the ZM-VE200 and reading its features i begun to be less and less interested in its connectivity (performance) something which as most of you know is not like me at all (although eSATA is not slow). However the enclosure follows a design rarely ever see, if at all, features a small VFW screen, write protect key and also allows you to mount CD/DVD ISO files on-the-fly without using extra software. Overall the ZM-VE200 is unlike anything i have ever used but don't take my word for it, just keep reading to see.
