INTRODUCTION

I can still recall a time when having a single 120GB external HDD was considered overkill unless your job description required one that is. Nowadays most people i know have at least two 500GB external HDDs while others have long breached the 5TB barrier while just a select few count over 15TB. Because of that purchasing a good quality but also fast external HDD enclosure is quite crucial. RaidSonic has been at the forefront of external HDD enclosures for many years now and today with us we have their latest offering the Icy Box IB-4320STu3 USB 3.0 External RAID Enclosure.

RaidSonic Technology GmbH was founded in Hamburg 1999. To realize our future visions and the rising requirements, RaidSonic moved to Ahrensburg (20 min. away from Hamburg) in May 2004.The capacity of our new warehouse, our permanent improving logistic and the expanded technical support lets us look into the future very optimistically. Our vision in a constantly growing IT market is to develop products, which will become your future dreams. Our extensive product portfolio, which we distribute Europe-wide, combines all internal and external solutions for the application of mass storage, for industrial and professional applications as well as for the private sphere, too. Through our all along increasing know-how, good results in research and development and our good cooperation with our long-time customers we could achieve a dynamic growth.

The Icy Box IB-4320STu3 is a dual bay USB 3.0 external HDD enclosure with JBOD feature and support for both RAID 0 for maximum speed and RAID 1 for maximum data protection. Although i have to admit i am not much of a RAID person since i have losing data if something goes wrong (RAID 1 is ok but quite slow) i also have to admit that the speeds achieved are far superior to the ones of a single HDD. Because of that and also because lately we have quite a few RAID capable enclosures arriving here we will be testing every RAID capable enclosure with both RAID settings and as normal external enclosure. Let's see what the latest RaidSonic enclosure is really capable of.
