INTRODUCTION

Two days ago we had the chance to thoroughly test the latest RAIDON 4 Bay external HDD enclosure which proved to be more than just perfect for its price tag and ideal for people with needs of up to 12TB of storage. Today we have the latest RaidSonic ICY BOX IB-NAS6220 dual HDD bay unit with us which is basically a cost effective NAS device with most of the available functions (although not all of them) we find in more expensive units.

RaidSonic Technology GmbH was founded in Hamburg 1999. To realize our future visions and the rising requirements, RaidSonic moved to Ahrensburg (20 min. away from Hamburg) in May 2004.The capacity of our new warehouse, our permanent improving logistic and the expanded technical support lets us look into the future very optimistically. Our vision in a constantly growing IT market is to develop products, which will become your future dreams. Our extensive product portfolio, which we distribute Europe-wide, combines all internal and external solutions for the application of mass storage, for industrial and professional applications as well as for the private sphere, too. Through our all along increasing know-how, good results in research and development and our good cooperation with our long-time customers we could achieve a dynamic growth.

When i received the RaidSonic Icy Box IB-NAS6220 i have to admit that i was quite skeptical since its specifications and features are definitely a few steps lower than all the other NAS units we have reviewed by other companies such as QNAP and Synology. Certainly the price tag of the IB-NAS6220 is not as high and as you will also see later on the IB-NAS6220 offers everything a casual user would ever want and then some combined with an equally simple interface (GUI). Specifications wise the IB-NAS6220 sports a Marvel 6281 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 256MB of flash memory, 256MB of RAM, a Gigabit Ethernet port and three USB 2.0 ports. The only question is if this is the right device to cover your needs and as always we are here to help you find out.
