INTRODUCTION

Just over a month ago some of you started asking us if it would be possible for us to take a closer look at the latest VENOM CPU Cooler by AKASA since it featured a nice price/performance ratio according to others. As always we do our best to deliver on what you all ask (although not always possible) and so a few days ago the VENOM unit arrived and was mounted on our secondary test bed to see for ourselves just how good it really is.

The Akasa brand was launched back in the year 2000 when the Overclocking and Case modding trend started to appear and since day one they offered good quality solutions with a reasonable price and intelligent technical support. The name comes from a Sanskrit word meaning atmosphere, space and the ether which is quite fit for a company that makes air cooling solutions. Akasa used a leading UK based design company to make their solutions more western like and it didn't take long for their blue and yellow style to be recognized by gamers and enthusiasts. Their cool it with color slogan was first introduced in 2002 and was inextricably linked to Akasa products. In June 2006 Akasa performed a restructuring of the entire company in an effort to meet the increasing demand for technology products from mainstream computer markets.

As you will all see later on compared to previous AKASA solutions the VENOM is indeed pretty good and it also does pretty well against similar priced units. Design wise the latest Killer Viper 120mm PWM fan with its S-Flow blades along with the yellow/black color theme produce a very nice visual result, if you like lots of yellow that is. So let's move forward and take a closer look at the latest and perhaps best to date AKASA offering in their CPU Cooler line.
