INTRODUCTION

 

 

 

 

    It really seems that lately most of you out there are looking to replace your old hard disk drives with new ones hence the huge increase in demands for more HDD reviews. What's really interesting however is that many of you request enterprise SAS drive reviews and not the standard SATA 3 reviews which means that Serial Attached SCSI has finally found its way into many homes. Having already covered a wide range of SAS drives mainly from Seagate today we will be taking a look at a product made by a different company. Of course as the name of the article clearly states that company is Toshiba and the product in question is their latest MBF2450RC 2.5" SAS 6Gb/s hard disk drive.

 

 

    Toshiba Storage Device Division has been at the forefront of storage technology for almost 40 years. Since the company first came into existence in 1972, it has led the development of optical disc drive (ODD) and hard disk drive (HDD) technologies and continues to market high quality HDDs to original equipment manufacturer (OEMs), value-added resellers (VAR), value-added dealers and system integrators. With each new breakthrough, the company has helped product designers realize new and exciting consumer applications that were previously just a figment of someone’s imagination. Inherent to the company’s success has been its sincere commitment to high-quality product engineering and manufacturing, an approach that has established Toshiba products as market leaders worldwide. Toshiba’s constant drive for innovation and success stems back to the company’s first 14-inch (35.6cm) drive in 1972, through to the introduction of 8-inch (20.3cm) drives for the then burgeoning PC industry in 1975 and the subsequent launch of 5.25-inch (13.3cm), 3.5-inch (8.9cm) and 2.5-inch (6.4cm) hard drives. Far removed from its first 40MB 2.5-inch (6.4cm) drives, Toshiba now delivers 1000GB in the same form factor – an amazing increase in capacity.

 

 

    As the second half of the product name clearly states the MBF2450RC is the 450GB variant of the latest Toshiba 2.5" Enterprise SAS HDD line and besides that there are two more models available in both 300GB and 600GB storage capacities. Of course with Seagate and others already releasing 1TB 2.5" Enterprise SAS drives the MBF2450RC seems quite small, as a matter of fact even the largest model the MBF2600RC seems small compared to those. However Toshiba placed performance above capacity and so as you will also see later thanks to a rotational speed of 10000RPM on the MBF2450RC simply outperforms the latest 7200RPM drives by Seagate by a large percentage.
