INTRODUCTION

 

 

 

 

    At a slow but steady rate storage capacity needs have begun to get out control for most people including myself and so whereas 500GB would be more than sufficient 5 years ago (still are for some users) now most people have at least 2000GB (2TB) while others even have more than 10TB. Still like if that along wasn't enough up until lately most people would span their data backups onto far too many hard disk drives thus taking too much space and making it very hard to track down a specific file. Luckily for all of us Hitachi along with the other major players in the storage segment of the market have numerous new internal and external HDD solutions of up to 3TB of space and although we do have their latest UltraStar 3TB models here with us their review will have to wait a few days till we finish our testing. For now we bring you a review of their latest award winning external storage solution the LifeStudio Desk Plus with 2TB of available space for you to use.

    Quite honestly up until a month ago i wasn't aware of any External storage units made by Hitachi so when i first saw the LifeStudio units i was quite impressed by their design and finish so i just had to get one for testing and see if it was just as good in terms of performance. Unfortunately the LifeStudio Desk Plus series don't feature USB 3.0 connectivity, not still anyways and that could be seen as a drawback since we are talking about 2TB of space which takes a lot to fill via USB 2.0. In any case this is the only negative thing i could find about the LifeStudio Desk Plus series during my review and do trust me when i say that this product has a lot going on from looks and bundled software up to an extra 4GB USB flash drive upgradable up to 32GB via SD card.
