INTRODUCTION

 

        When i first started with computers the only name one could find in the VGA card market was Trident which soon was followed by Matrox , S3, Nvidia , Ati and finally with 3DFX. Back then the most important hardware part in a computer was its CPU and so nobody really had any interest or knowledge on how to overclock a VGA card and because of that companies did not see it fit to make VGA coolers , perhaps mostly because games at the time were not really heavy like they are in our days and the simple VGA solutions at the time did not produce near as much heat as modern graphics cards.

       In a world like ours however, filled with requirement hungry games it was only natural that after a while the GPU or graphics processing unit would become perhaps the most important hardware in a computer system. So the two major GPU manufacturers of our time got into a race releasing more and more state of the art graphics cards into the market capable of running all the latest games in ultra high resolutions along with full eye candy. However this didn’t come without a price and so cards in nowadays use tremendous amounts of power resulting to more heat and noise output. It didn't really take a long time for companies like Arctic Cooling , Scythe , Xigmatek , Coolink and others to manufacture Air Cooling solutions for a variety of cards made by both GPU vendors.

        A few days ago we tested Xigmatek's CPU heatsinks which featured the H.D.T or heatpipe direct touch base technology where the heatpipes are naked and so they are in direct contact with the CPU. All of them performed admirably and so Xigmatek a while back decided to go into the GPU Cooling field with the BattleAxe, a huge dual fan cooler which is also the only cooler in the market to also feature the H.D.T technology. Today we are testing it to see how well they did with their first try.
