INTRODUCTION

 

 

 

 

    In an effort to cover all segments of the market and not only the ultra-high end a couple of weeks back we reviewed the latest NVIDIA card targeted towards entry-level/HTPC users the GeForce GT430. AMD (ATI) may not have introduced anything new in their entry-level line of products but still since the latest Radeon HD 6850 is currently the lowest model in the Radeon HD 6xxx product line we decided on taking it for a spin. However to make things really interesting instead of reviewing an normal reference Radeon HD 6850 here with us today we have an factory-overclocked variant made by the well-known HIS the Radeon HD IceQ X Turbo 1GB version.

    Although up until today we never really had a chance to take a look at one of the countless products made by HIS i always enjoyed their color schemes and custom cooling solutions. Now unlike the normal AMD Radeon HD 6850 1GB that comes with a core clock of 775MHz and memory modules at 1000MHz the HIS Radeon HD 6850 IceQ X Turbo 1GB Edition comes with a pretty nice 13% factory overclock resulting at 820MHz core clock speed and 1150MHz memory speed. Now since the 68xx series of graphics cards are AMDs mid-end solution don't expect to be blown away by the performance of this particular card but rather look at it as an nice combination between performance, noise levels, cooling efficiency, supported features and price.
