INTRODUCTION

Inside 2010 we have seen the introduction of more Media Players and Recorders than both 2008 and 2009 combined and personally i think that has proved to be a very good thing for the end user since competition has managed to lower the prices when compared with two or even a year ago and so today you can purchase a brand media player with less than 100Euros. Certainly more expensive devices do exist for the most demanding of users some of which offer better audio/video quality, extra settings, more connectors, higher quality components, built-in Blu-ray players, Wi-Fi capability, DVB-T Tuner or Tuners and of course even recording.

AC Ryan has been one of the leading producers of quality cabling & accessories for international companies since 1992. The establishment of the modding product line in 2002 led to the international brand awareness of AC Ryan. Known for innovation and quality, never afraid to break new grounds, AC Ryan instantly became a favorite of promodders and advanced users. Pioneering the revolutionary CableFREE concept, introducing Connectx connector modding system, advancing the FlexSleeving craze, infecting half the modworld with UVactive Fever... there's no doubt AC Ryan leads the way. To this day, modders around the world still use AC Ryan ProModding products to give their award winning casemods the final touch.

AC Ryan is no stranger to us since we have been testing their Media Players right from the very beginning. Today however it is the first time we test one of their recording devices and more specifically the brand new Playon!DVR-HD. Some of you may recall the previous Playon!DVR model released more than a year ago. So as expected compared with its predecessor the new Playon!DVR-HD comes with a revamped features list with significant improvements/additions such as MKV support, dual DVB-T Tuner, MPEG4 support, built-in card reader, DTS down mixing support and many more which we will be covering later on.
