     Without doubt hard disk drives have dominated the market for almost 5 decades starting off with just a few megabytes and reaching capacities of several terabytes. Technology however did not stay the same through the years and so hard disk drives underwent many changes such as the replacement of the old IDE protocol and rotational speeds of up to 7200RPM with SATA and supported speeds of up to 10000RPM, without taking into account SCSI and SAS drives. However even with such high speeds hard disk drives have not even managed to surpass the initial SATA protocol and that was one of the many reasons behind why several companies decided on researching solid state drives.
