INTRODUCTION

No matter where i go these days there is always a huge traffic jam regardless of the time. I really don't know if this happens anywhere else in the world but us Greeks really leave everything up to the very last moment, including Christmas shopping. Today's product is one of the few Hardware Media Players in the market that offer very good bang for the buck and so this is perhaps a very good time to release this review. Unlike all the previous EGREAT players we had the opportunity to test the EG-R1 is their first try with the Realtek HD Playback solution.
EGREAT was established in August 2006 and is based in China. They have spend much on the R&D department in a continuous pursuit of perfection in arts and crafts and that ensures that they get high quality and innovative products. Their current product line includes multi-media hard-disk players, HD network HDD Players, Network storage servers, digital photo frames, advertising machines, USB video creator, USB DVR surveillance system and company accessories. Having already reviewed most Multimedia Network Tanks from EGREAT we have quite a good idea of what kind of performance to expect from their high quality and feature rich solutions.
Although the Realtek HD Playback Chip is not anything extraordinary or groundbreaking EGREAT added a few features not seen in other solutions in the market. Make no mistake and do not expect any glamorous features but EGREAT did manage to add eSATA and SATA external connectors which is something that should really come in handy. Still just like the M34 the R1 does not come with internal room for an HDD and that may actually disappoint quite a few users, although as most of you know i would only consider a player with more than 3 internal HDD spots as really useful, but that is just me.
