INTRODUCTION

It has been quite a long time since we last had a hardware media player on our test bed and since we have had the opportunity to review a large number of them this is somewhat weird. For that matter during the past month we have been receiving all of the latest devices from companies in the field and have finally finished thoroughly testing some of those. First unit in our list is the latest EGREAT offering the EG-M34 which unlike previous EGREAT solutions does not feature room for an internal HDD mainly because it was ment to compete against the solution my Western Digital in terms of size and price.
EGREAT was established in August 2006 and is based in China. They have spend much on the R&D department in a continuous pursuit of perfection in arts and crafts and that ensures that they get high quality and innovative products. Their current product line includes multi-media hard-disk players, HD network HDD Players, Network storage servers, digital photo frames, advertising machines, USB video creator, USB DVR surveillance system and company accessories. Having already reviewed the most Multimedia Network Tanks from EGREAT we have quite a good idea of what kind of performance to expect from their high quality and feature rich solutions.
As mentioned the EG-M34 was developed as competitor for the WD media device and so the first and foremost important issue was the size which although convenient still it made the installation of an internal HDD impossible. That aside the EGREAT device has numerous features that the WD device does not and this is how EGREAT is hoping to surpass the WD solution and gain a large share in the entry level media player market. Performance and features aside i do like the EGREAT solution more since it has a metal casing which looks a lot more elegant than the plastic casing of the WD solution.
