INTRODUCTION

The fight between the two high definition digital formats made by SONY and TOSHIBA ended a while ago with SONY being the winner. However there are still companies that support the HD-DVD format by Toshiba by releasing optical devices that can read and write CD / DVD / Blu-Ray and HD-DVD discs. This is done mainly because there are a lot of people ( including myself ) who supported Toshiba and bought an HD-DVD device so many people have HD-DVD movies. In any case it is great to see a company that supports a dead format. Our today’s review is about the PX-B920SA, an optical device made by Plextor, the leading company in optical drives, which can read and write the formats listed above.
Plextor has been the Leader in optical drives around the world ever since its conception under a different name in 1985. In 1985 it was called TEXEL Corporation and was established in Tokyo as a subsidiary of Shinano Kenshi Co.Ltd. It wasn’t until 1993 that Plextor was established in Brussels and started its long and very successful domination in the Optical drive market manufacturing from plain CD-ROM, CD-RW drives with either IDE or SCSI connection up to Dual Layer DVD-RW and Blu-Ray drives with the latest SATA connection these guys have done it all. Of course with such a great course Plextor decided to venture into other hardware areas such as Multimedia Players, HDDs and Floppy Disk Drives. It is also worth mentioning that Plextor gives the best warranty around the world with 2 years pickup service in the EU, meaning that if your drive breaks you only need to apply for an RMA online and Plextor will send an brand new drive at your house within 2 working days. That combined with the excellent build quality and performance of Plextor optical drives is the reason behind as to why enthusiasts around the world have only the best to say about Plextor.
The PX-B920SA is the latest offering in the Plextor line of Blu-Ray writers and according to its datasheet it really sounds amazing. With this not only will you be able to watch DVD, Blu-Ray, HD-DVD movies but you will also be able to write these formats as well, except HD-DVD that is. That aside you also get the well known support and quality that made Plextor the leader in optical drives. So let's head on and see how well this drive performs.
