With a Silverstone product in your hands you get the same feeling that you would while holding a Noctua: Craftsmanship at the highest level and performance only the gods speak of. Silverstone has laced there product line with a plethora of amazing chassis and power supplies.  Some of the lesser known products include CPU coolers such as the NT-06, accessories and storage devices like the DS321.The product we are looking at today is the TS04 2.5” External USB 3.0 Enclosure accompanied by Silverstone’s latest offering in USB 3.0 PCIe expansion cards based on the new NEC  µPD720202 controller, namely the EC03-P.

Previous generations of USB 3.0 controllers that were initially released with the P55 and SB850 allowed us to get comfortable with the interface. While the true speed of USB 3.0 won’t be realized until we have a chipset with it integrated, NEC and Silverstone have come together to bring the highest performing solution available to market with the aforementioned NEC µPD720202.

External enclosures have made their niche in the market based on users that prefer to have full control over their device rather than purchasing a retail setup such as the Seagate Free Agent or Western Digital Passport. While those devices do fine for most and I would hardly like to steer you away from them as they are indeed great products, some end users prefer the ability to upgrade their external storage as their needs grow. This is where Silverstone can become part of your everyday life. With the TS-04, Silverstone puts at your fingertips an upgradable external enclosure that devises support for USB 3.0 with an internal SATA II connection utilizing the ASMedia ASM1051.
