INTRODUCTION

 

 

 

 

    Every now and then i stop the usual review flow and instead of testing products according to the when they arrived here i choose to test a product that it’s been far too long since i had something similar on my test bench. So the other day while i was working on some peripherals i suddenly remembered that inside 2011 we didn't even have a single modem/router review (actually more in like 10 months or so) and so without delay i dived into all of the available samples to find one such device and i did. So today we will be taking a closer look at the latest and quite awesome (features-wise at least) 450Mbps Wireless N Gigabit Router by TRENDnet the TEW-691GR.

    Compared to the previous generation 300Mbps TEW-673GRU Dual Band Wireless N Gigabit Router also manufactured by TRENDnet we tested almost a year ago the latest TEW-691GR offers a much larger data rate of up to 450Mbps but lacks some extra features we find to be quite useful with the TEW-673GRU such as the top color LCD information screen and the rear USB ports. Features-aside however the extra data rate of the latest unit should come quite handy to people who need the extra wireless speed and reliability that is if it works as advertised which is something we should be able to answer by the end of this review.
