INTRODUCTION

 

 

              I remember a time when DVD was the king and resolutions from 480p up to 576p where considered to be excellent and the best possible ones technology could provide. Since then the market has grown, the DVD has lost its throne technologically wise and resolutions up to 576p are no longer considered high quality. Instead devices like HD-DVD and Blu-Ray players came to provide us with High Definition resolutions of up to 1080p. Still the stiff prices of not only the devices themselves but also the prices of the Blu-Ray movies were not welcomed by consumers exactly as companies originally had hoped they would. So certain online companies started selling movies in the form of downloadable content with the same 576p or 1080p quality but in much lower prices and so it didn’t take long for people to come up with the HTPC concept, small sized PC cases no bigger than an Audio/Video receiver which in turn would play that content on the Big screen while at the same time they would occupy a small amount of space. However the video quality produced was not satisfactory enough for many people and so was also not the cost of these systems. In light of this a few companies like Sigma Designs started making chips that could be used to playback that content with near excellent quality while at the same time would keep the cost into a minimum. This is where EGREAT comes in.

 

               EGREAT was established in August 2006 and is based in China. They have spend much on the R&D department in a continuous pursuit of perfection in arts and crafts and  that ensures that the end user receives high quality and innovative products. Their current product line includes multi-media hard-disk players, HD network HDD Players, Network storage servers, digital photo frames, advertising machines, USB video creator, USB DVR surveillance system and company accessories. Today we expand our hardware review range and by doing so the device that we will be putting to the test is the EGREAT M31B HDTANK.

 

              The EGREAT M31B is considered to be one of the best HD Players in the market by many people not only because of its ability to decode MKV High Definition files that only select HD Media Players can do, but also because of the vast list of other supported formats. The M31B can output 1080p signal through HDMI or Component and has a overwhelming list of features and specifications. But let’s not waste time and head to the review itself.
