INTRODUCTION

Generally we don't have many speaker systems come in to review since we only choose a few of them each year, more specifically the ones we feel look best and have mostly attracted the attention of all of you. This is done not because we don't enjoy reviewing speaker systems but mainly because it takes a lot of time to do so especially since like headphones and headsets it takes quite some time for drivers to burn in and output the best possible audio quality. Now although just over a month ago we reviewed the quite excellent and somewhat expensive Z906 5.1 Surround Sound speakers by Logitech today we will be taking a look at the latest X-Plosion Speaker Set 2.1 by SandBerg.
Sandberg A/S is a Danish company with a clear ideology: We want to make it easier to get hold of computer accessories. Everyone should be able to find the right accessories in the shop and get them to work once they've got them home without the need for specialist knowledge. The basic idea of Sandberg wanting to make things easier for both consumers and dealers has imbued the spirit of everything that Sandberg has done since 1985, when the company was founded by the two brothers Martin Hollerup and Erling Hoff Petersen.
The X-Plosion Speaker Set 2.1 is certainly nothing impressive in terms of features (most if not all 2.1 sets aren't) and it's a fact that 2.1 speaker systems are nowhere near 5.1 systems due to positioning effects (regardless of price) but it does offer plenty of bass, good audio quality and a very nice overall design. The build quality of the unit is what anyone would expect from a rather cost-effective 2.1 speaker set but surprisingly enough the enclosure of the subwoofer is mostly made by wood (or at least a material that actually looks and feels like wood).
