INTRODUCTION

 

 

 

 

    Unlike most of my colleagues who think that reviewing external HDD enclosures is pretty much a waste of time i like doing so because i understand how important it is for some people to have either an really fast 3.5" External HDD Enclosure for backup purposes or a really fast 2.5/1.8" portable enclosure with which they can easily move data from various locations. Now as most of you know i have reviewed a large number of external enclosures during the past years some of which feature the latest USB 3.0 connection which although far from perfect it does offer speeds of up to 4-5 times faster than USB 2.0. Today’s review is about such a device and more particularly the latest 2.5" external HDD enclosure by Enermax called the Brick.

 

 

     Enermax Technology Corporation was founded in Taiwan in 1990 and today is one of the leading manufacturers of PC components (power supplies, PC cases, cooling fans, keyboards, HDD enclosures and other peripherals). Since 2000 the head quarter is located in Taoyuan, Taiwan. Six subsidiaries and numerous affiliates around the world provide an excellent network for ODM/OEM and retail business. Enermax has subsidiaries in Germany, France, Italy, USA, Japan and China. Worldwide, over 600 employees work for Enermax. Since 2004, the Enermax Technology Corporation is listed at the Taiwanese stock exchange. Detailed technical knowledge and foresight played an essential role for the quick development of the Enermax brand. Prior to the establishment of their own business, the Enermax’ founders served in executive positions in IT industry. They have been well acquainted with the demands of ambitious, hardware enthusiastic customers and took the opportunity offered by the lack of premium-quality, high-performance and durable PC components at that time. Within a very short period of time, the Enermax brand became popular around the world. Enermax possesses two own factories and thereby guarantees product’s high quality and long lifetime. Over the last decades, their innovations and technologies continuously defined new standards for the market.

 

 

    The Brick enclosure we have here with us today is in fact the second Brick product released by Enermax with the first featuring USB 2.0 support and a slightly different HDD mounting system. These two differences aside the new Brick also comes with the same brushed aluminum surface and small overall size that made the original unit a bestseller when it was released (i guess it's no coincidence that Enermax chose to continue the Brick line). Overall the Brick looks and feels great but what's really important is its data transfer speeds which although not something special since they are on par with what similar USB 3.0 2.5" HDD enclosures offer still they are very good.
