INTRODUCTION

 

 

 

 

     Although for the past 6 years i must have used and reviewed more than 50 professional and gaming headphones/headsets only just a handful were wireless mainly because many manufacturers claim that wireless connectivity does not offer the best possible audio quality and i tend to agree with them since that's quite natural based on plain logic. On the other hand the G930 Wireless Gaming Headset by Logitech performed admirably and equally well as the G35 which is practically the same unit but without the wireless feature. In any case with us today we have yet another wireless headset this time however it's manufactured by SteelSeries and is called the Spectrum 7XB, brother to the 7H USB headset we had with us a few months back.

    As mentioned above almost a year ago we reviewed the 7H USB headset by SteelSeries which actually was a very good headset with excellent build quality and very good audio reproduction. At first glance the Spectrum 7XB is almost identical to the 7H USB featuring the same interchangeable earcups, a retractable/unidirectional microphone and can also be split in 3 different pieces what i was however glad to find out after testing is that they are also identical in their audio reproduction. However i was somewhat disappointed to see that the unit can only be used as a headset (phones/mic) with the XBOX 360 console by Microsoft and not with a personal computer or anything else for that matter. Sure you can always use the Spectrum 7XB as plain headphones with pretty much anything that can output audio signal via mini-jack (however you always need to provide power to the transmitter via USB) but for such a price tag i would had expected from SteelSeries something slightly more than just that. Anyways let's continue and see exactly what SteelSeries is offering with the Spectrum 7XB.
