INTRODUCTION

 

 

 

 

    With just a few weeks left before the first 80Plus Platinum certified power supplies get their official release into the market enthusiasts and overclockers are already getting ready to power their systems with these ultra high-end units. However since most of you out there don't care about the 80Plus Platinum certification nor about massive power supplies their arrival will probably be of no concern to you and because of that today we bring you yet another review of a mid-end power supply unit, the ErPRO 80+ 500W by Enermax.

 

 

        Enermax Technology Corporation was founded in Taiwan in 1990 and today is one of the leading manufacturers of PC components (power supplies, PC cases, cooling fans, keyboards, HDD enclosures and other peripherals). Since 2000 the head quarter is located in Taoyuan, Taiwan. Six subsidiaries and numerous affiliates around the world provide an excellent network for ODM/OEM and retail business. Enermax has subsidiaries in Germany, France, Italy, USA, Japan and China. Worldwide, over 600 employees work for Enermax. Since 2004, the Enermax Technology Corporation is listed at the Taiwanese stock exchange. Detailed technical knowledge and foresight played an essential role for the quick development of the Enermax brand. Prior to the establishment of their own business, the Enermax’ founders served in executive positions in IT industry. They have been well acquainted with the demands of ambitious, hardware enthusiastic customers and took the opportunity offered by the lack of premium-quality, high-performance and durable PC components at that time.     The ErPRO 80+ line of power supplies is amongst the latest ones in the Enermax inventory and is targeted towards the mid-end segment of the market where massive power outputs are simply not needed, that's exactly why the highest wattage unit of that line is just 500W. Instead the ErPRO80+ comes packed with several useful features such as the ErP Lot 6 which allows the unit to use less than 1W in standby mode, the Enermax patented SpeedGuard/SafeGuard/AirGuard protections, an 120mm silent Twister fan and of course the 80Plus Certification. As you will also see later on the ErPRO 80+ 500W is a very good power supply, for its price range always and although we did have to modify our test bed more than usual (we had to remove all three GTX295 cards and use an 9800GT instead) still we like its overall performance.
