INTRODUCTION

 

 

 

 

    To most people a simple USB 2.0 compatible external HDD is more than enough when it comes to storing everyday data or backing up important files but what happens when your job demands the best in both terms of speed and reliability? There are certainly many great solutions out there by almost every single company that produces HDD based products but most of the time all models are virtually the same with just connectivity as their sole difference. So you see the same exact unit with USB 2.0, the same unit with eSATA, the same unit with USB 2.0 and Firewire 400 and so on. The people over at Hitachi GST and G-Technologies thought of this and decided to join forces in order to bring something really unique in the market for people who don't just want something good but simply the best money can buy.

    Today with us we have one of G-Technologies basic products called the G-Drive, an all-aluminum external enclosure that comes with capacities of up to 3TB and pretty much any interface one would need including 3Gbit eSATA, FireWire 800 (FireWire 400 via included cable) and USB 2.0. Now at first i did not like the fact that this drive did not feature USB 3.0 but as you will see later on it's not really needed, not with such performance results when connected via eSATA. The G-Drive also features an large aluminum heatsink to keep the temperatures of the drive at a low, something that i have never seen on any external HDD enclosure up until this day.
