INTRODUCTION

With most cases in the market able to accommodate at least up to 4 internal disk drives it is quite natural for people, most at least to have no storage issues. What happens however when not even a full tower with the ability to add up to 6 disk drives or more is not enough to cover your needs? The solution came quite a few years ago and was named the HDD docking station. To make things simple a docking station connects via USB, eSATA or Firewire to your system and allows you to use your 3.5' or 2.5 disk drives on the fly without having to install them in the case. Raidsonic is one of the first companies to introduce an external HDD docking station and several versions later we have their latest product with us the Icy Box IB-115.
RaidSonic was founded in Hamburg in 1999 and in May 2004 they moved to Ahrensburg due to the need for larger warehouse space. Ever since Raidsonic has grown into one of the best known corporations around especially in the PC market not only as a result of the high quality components and materials used in their solutions but also because of their permanent improving logistic and expanded technical support.
Now people use HDD Docking Stations mainly with their computer systems but personally i have also been using them for quite some time now with media players since it's very convenient to swap disk drives that way. When it comes to the Icy Box IB-115 by Raidsonic things are even better than normal docking stations since Raidsonic has also placed an eSATA connector on it and they have even made USB3.0 models for increased read/write speeds, however today we will be testing an USB2.0 /eSATA model that also features 2 USB2.0 ports and a nice multi card reader which could come in handy even if you already own a card reader since this way you can also save space.
