INTRODUCTION

One of the most important decisions every PC owner in the world has to take is when his current power supply unit dies and he, or she, has to go out and get a new one. That's when you reach a crossroad and you have two roads to take, either get yourself a cheap power supply similar to the one you had or spend more and get yourself a better one. The reasons as to why the second choice is the right one have been pointed out by us time and again and so there's little need to go over them again. Today we have the new Antec TruePower New 550W variant on our test table and we are quite curious to see if it continues the great TruePower saga.
Antec, Inc., is the leading global brand of high-performance computer components and accessories for the gaming, PC upgrade and Do-It-Yourself (DIY) markets. Founded in 1986, Antec is recognized as a pioneer in these industries and has maintained its position as a worldwide market leader and international provider of efficient, quiet, and reliable products. Antec has also achieved great success in the distribution channel, meeting the demands of quality-conscious system builders, VARs and integrators. Antec is headquartered in Fremont, California, with additional offices in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, as well as in Germany, China and Taiwan. The company’s products are sold in more than 40 countries throughout the world. Please visit www.antec.com for more information.
The Antec TruePower New line is actually the fourth product line to carry the TruePower name after the original TruePower series followed by TruePower II and then TruePower Trio. Of course the TruePower series was never Antec's flagship line that was the job of the signature edition, however the TruePower series always delivered very good stability at a very reasonable price range. So what about the new TruePower New series? Well over a year ago we did test the TP-750 which is the 750W variant of the same series and I have to say that we were quite impressed with it so we do expect similar performance levels from its smaller brother.
