INTRODUCTION

 

 

 

 

 

 

       One of the few things i require from a power supply unit in order to review it is to be of high quality and targeted to the above average user. However since people keep asking me why i insist on mostly reviewing power supply units that cost a lot i have decided to take a small turn and make a review about a very cost effective unit which is not targeted to the enthusiast but rather to the entry level user who just wants something a little better than the cheap power supplies seen in the market. Chieftec is the manufacturer and the name of the unit in question is the APS-550S.

        Chieftec has only recently come aboard with their products and so far their Dragon PC Case made quite an impression to us. However the A135 series of power supplies unlike the Dragon are not targeted towards the Gamer / Enthusiast but mainly to the entry level users and as a result the end price is extremely low for a brand PSU. That aside the unit outputs a total of 550W has the basic 80plus certification, features Active PFC and it is not modular. Of course with just 550W as a total power output i would really be surprised if it was.
