TESTING METHODOLOGY
Since right now I do not own a second Blu-Ray burner there isn’t a way to test its writing speed against the writing speed of another. However since it is also a CD/DVD burner I will be taking it up against the PX-820A which is the latest DVD Recorder by Plextor. I will also burn a single 45GB ( 50GB ) Blu-Ray disc to know what times to expect from the PX-B920SA. Finally I will update its firmware and redo the tests to see what kind of gains one can get by updating the drive.
TEST RESULTS FIRMWARE 1.00
DVD READ TEST PLEXTOR PX-820A

DVD READ TEST PLEXTOR PX-B920SA

DVD WRITE TEST PLEXTOR PX-820A

DVD WRITE TEST PLEXTOR PX-B920SA

Strange results in the first tests. On one hand the PX-B920SA has faster access times and burst speed yet it is slower than the PX-820 in both read and write total times. I did expect a bit more from a drive like this, still it is sold as a Blu-Ray recorder and so perhaps Plextor did not worry about DVD read / write speeds.
