Introduction

While I was in the middle of my last review from Noctua, the A series fans – I was contacted by Noctua with a press release featuring the NH-L9 CPU cooler. Of course, since I’ve always had a deep respect for Noctua products I told them to send one over and I would take a look at it.

The L9 or L9i that we are looking at today is very small cooler, rated to a top TDP of 65w. Of course we don’t have anything that small in house so we will take a look at it on our Sandy Bridge 2500K. Noctua was a little worried about this at first but I assured them I would do no overclocking. So accordingly DO NOT ATTEMPT TO OVERCLOCK YOUR CPU WITH THIS COOLER!!!

Now that we have that out of the way, we can talk about the real purpose of this cooler and that is HTPC use and more specifically for those times when space is so tight there is no other option. Setting on top of this cooler you will find one of the new A9x14 fans we recently reviewed to give the cooler a footprint of 95mm x 95mm x 37mm.

With a footprint this small you can be sure that this will not block memory slots nor expansion slots, of course this cooler has all that fun Noctua technology behind it as well, so let’s dig into the box and see what we have.

About Noctua

Noctua comes from a cooperation of the Austrian Rascom Computer distribution G.m.b.H. with the Taiwanese cooling specialist Kolink International Corporation, pooling more than ten years of experience in the development, manufacturing and marketing of high-end cooling components. Established in 2005, Noctua took the international silent enthusiasts' hearts by storm and quickly developed into one of the most acclaimed suppliers of premium quality quiet cooling products. Today, Noctua is present in more than 30 countries across the globe and working with several hundred sales partners. Chosen by noise conscious PC users, system integrators and industry clients alike, Noctua has become synonymous with impeccable quality, excellent customer service and class leading quiet cooling performance.

In a market that's increasingly driven by cost saving rather than customer dedication and flooded with branded budget products, we take pride in striving for excellence both in product and service quality. For example, our heatsinks feature all soldered joints for maximum performance and durability, our fans' 150,000h+ MTBF is backed up by a full 6 years manufacturer's warranty and when AMD introduced AM2 and Intel introduced LGA1366, we provided thousands of users with mounting kits for free. As a result, an ever growing base of avid Noctua users not only swears by the thoroughgoing premium quality of our products, but also by our excellent, customer-friendly service.
