The MSI R7850 Power Edition Overclocking
The MSI R7850 PE is designed for overclocking, as it comes with a Triple Over-Voltage feature that allows the CPU, VRAM and PLL voltage to be increased. This feature is going to increase the overclocking headroom by delivering more power to these areas to support higher clock speeds.
We started out by increasing the voltage levels to their respective maximum levels and then started slowing increasing the clock speeds to find stability. What we found out though is this card required slightly more finesse than just pushing the voltage and clock speeds to the max. In fact the card was more comfortable running the core voltage at a certain level to achieve the highest clock speed possible, and the same was true for the PLL voltage.
We achieve the best results when the CPU voltage was set at 1220mV and the AuX voltage was offset by +10. With these settings we were able to increase the core clock up to 1125MHz. That is actually well beyond any of the other HD 7850 graphics cards I have tested and is an increase of 18.5% of the stock clock speed.
The memory was also able to overclock quite well, and since all the VRAM chips were cooled by an integrated heatspreader the chips were cool enough to easy allow us to push the voltage to the maximum level. Our end result put the memory at 1375MHz, an increase of 14.5%.
