INTRODUCTION

While the eyes of the entire world are turned towards the new 1156 platform by INTEL and the new less power hungry i5 CPUs i still happen to consider the 1366 platform to be the best and so with us today we have yet another mainboard based on the X58 chipset by INTEL and manufactured by the well known ASRock. With the X58 Extreme ASRock aims to take the market by storm since it comes with a very low price tag and with quite a wealth of options while at the same time its overclocking potential is virtually the same as their high end Supercomputer model.

ASRock was established in 2002 and ever since then they have been producing high quality, innovative motherboards from the mainstream user to the high end enthusiast. During all this time they have used the design concept of 3C, Creative, Considerate, Cost-effective, and have successfully established a well-known leading brand of the best price-performance motherboard in the industry. ASRock products high recognition stems from company’s devotion to bring the most cost-performance products to users. Besides creative features and solid products, ASRock engineers also pay special attention to EMI, thermal, acoustics and details to achieve complete customer satisfaction. In addition to price-performance, creative and considerate features, ASRock also pay special on the issue of eco-environmental protection with the release of ROHS products and energy saving functions to save the environment. It is therefore no coincidence that their modo is "Motherboard, We Master It!".

As stated above the X58 Extreme version is a cut down version of the X58 Supercomputer in many aspects, mainly at the graphics department since the Extreme can support up to tri-SLI and tri-CF whereas the Supercomputer has the Quad SLI / CF ability. Excluding that the remaining differences are not that great and so the Supercomputer has 2 onboard Gigabit LAN adapters in comparison with the 1 found on the Extreme. Now when it comes to overclocking as you will see later on it is extremely easy to reach a stable 3.8GHz on air using the i7 920 and so most users will find themselves more than just covered in that area.
